Lead: Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT)

Partner/s: Public Transport SA (PTSA)

About: DIT has delivered strategic urban greening at Parafield Station, transforming the Park ‘n’ Ride environment to improve shade, comfort and amenity for public transport users. The project includes the planting of 170 new trees, designed to achieve 30% canopy cover at maturity across the car park.

A detailed assessment of existing site conditions — including parking layout, CCTV coverage and operational requirements — identified opportunities for new planting areas. This analysis enabled the removal of selected asphalt sections to create high‑value green spaces without compromising safety or functionality.

Strategy alignment: Priority 2, Action 2.2.

Status:

  • COMPLETED – 170 new trees planted and greening works delivered to achieve future 30% canopy cover.
  • UNDERWAY – Monitoring tree establishment and integrating lessons learned into future PTSA and DIT greening projects.
  • TO START – Explore further opportunities for strategic greening across the public transport network, including additional Park ‘n’ Ride sites.
