Urban Greening Strategy for Metro Adelaide

Biodiversity gain opportunities

Biodiversity Sensitive Urban Design (BSUD) is a framework for incorporating ecological knowledge into urban planning, design and development to achieve onsite biodiversity outcomes.

The BSUD Framework follows 5 key steps:

  1. Document biodiversity values
  2. Identify ecological objectives + identify development objectives
  3. Identify BSUD actions using the 5 BSUD principles
  4. Assess BSUD
  5. Decide on BSUD options to progress.

A Biodiversity Gain Opportunities Report is developed through the implementation of these steps. The methods used to complete these steps include desktop research and literature reviews, a site field survey, workshops to develop BSUD options, workshops to consider feasibility of BSUD options and refine the BSUD options.

Explore the guide below to see how these steps can be implemented, or learn more from the case study.
