Green Adelaide has opened its Grassroots Grants program, offering $1 million to volunteers, community groups, sport and recreation clubs, schools and more to help create a greener Adelaide.

Now in its seventh year, the program has supported nearly 250 communityled projects.

From green makeovers, to weeding working bees and wildlifefriendly initiatives, Green Adelaide Presiding Member Professor Chris Daniels said the grants continue to transform the city.

“Our Grassroots Grants are all about supporting the community to help deliver on our vision of a cooler, greener, wilder Adelaide,” Professor Daniels said.

“We’ve seen such incredible passion from volunteers who receive these grants.

“They have fantastic ideas around what could make a real difference for the environment in their local patch, and our funding can help make those ideas possible.

“This year, we’re excited to see what new and innovative ideas our applicants bring to help make Adelaide even greener.”

A strong focus on reaching a broader community beyond the traditional environment sector has seen a diverse range of recipients embracing the funding opportunity in recent grant rounds.

Green Adelaide Director Brenton Grear said the program plays a vital role in enabling onground action.

“Our Grassroots Grants program helps to turn community ideas into practical, highimpact projects that improve local biodiversity, create cooler neighbourhoods, and support people to connect with nature, Mr Grear said.

“The reach of our program now sees applicants from right across the community, from netball clubs to churches, youth organisations and more, all stepping up to support our environment.”

“This diversity is powerful. It shows that caring for our environment isn’t just the job of traditional conservation groups, it’s something every part of the community can contribute to, and these grants help make that possible.”

Applications are now open and close on 25 May 2026.
