Waypoint Paralowie Uniting Church will receive a Grassroots Grant to undertake a major greening project alongside their facility

The funding will help deliver on-ground action, across metropolitan Adelaide.

Green Adelaide Presiding Member Professor Chris Daniels said the funding would help facilitate a greener future.

“This funding breathes life into grassroots environmental action,” said Professor Daniels.

“Our grants will help make a real difference where it’s needed most, funding urban on-ground initiatives that transform priority areas into greener, more liveable and environmentally resilient spaces.

“Once again, our Grassroots Grants are providing the support to make it happen.”

Highlights from the 37 projects in Round 6 include:

  • native species planting to complement a new community sporting facility at the Adelaide Community Sports and Recreation Association;
  • removal of weeds and replacement of them with drought-tolerant native plantings at Linear Park;
  • a sensory-friendly and accessible green play area by Can:Do 4 Kids;
  • a major greening initiative by Waypoint Paralowie Uniting Church.

At Waypoint Paralowie Uniting Church, a major greening project will be undertaken to transform a large, barren area around their facility, to one with tree canopy cover and greenery.

Waypoint Paralowie Uniting Church Minister Rev Barry Littleford said the Grassroots Grants funding “would enable the sustainable transformation, making it a more environmentally friendly space and better suited to supporting community programs, and helping those in need”.

“Our church is situated next to a major shopping centre, which is a major community connection point,” Rev Littleford said.

“So, a new green space will significantly enhance our community's visual appeal, allowing us to better serve our neighbourhood and build further connections with it.”

With this latest round of Grassroots Grants funding, Green Adelaide has now supported 246 environmental initiatives over the past 5 years, empowering communities to take conservation action locally.
