Green Adelaide’s Youth Environment Council program is now open for applications from young people aged between 11 and 17 years old across South Australia. The program runs from March until December 2022.

It’s targeted at teens and pre-teens to boost their environmental knowledge and leadership skills through a fun camp, workshops, online forums and the delivery of an end-of-year environmental project.

The program’s 2022 intake is now open and the closing date has been extended to 9am Friday, 11 March. Here’s all you need to know:

What are the benefits of the program?

  1. Going on fun and activity-packed events at 3 top nature spots in South Australia – including a 2-night camp.
  2. Meeting like-minded people and sharing your passion for the environment and sustainability.
  3. Developing your leadership skills – through team building and public speaking – with direct access to expert support.
  4. Feeling confident and empowered to take action for the SA’s environment.
  5. Becoming an SA environmental champion – personally and/or professionally. Many of the program’s past participants have gone on to become local influencers who have been successful in delivering on-ground environmental projects and having a voice in important discussions, as well as becoming teachers, scientists and youth-workers.

What time commitment do I need to make?

The year-long program includes 3 key events with additional regular (and some optional) online discussion forums and catch ups to support your learning and the delivery of your end-of-year project. This includes:

  • A full-day Welcome Forum in April at Cleland Wildlife Park to kick off the program.
  • A 2-night camp in the beautiful Adelaide Hills in mid-May. The camp is jam-packed full of activities from icebreaker games and end-of-year project research and planning, to nature hikes, campfire stories, orienteering, quiz nights, talent shows, as well as presentations from guest speakers on leadership and sustainability.
  • A Sharing and Celebration Forum in November at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. The forum gives you the chance to share and celebrate your sustainability efforts over the year, and showcase your end-of-year environmental project.

Visit the 2022 program webpage for more detail on these activities and events.
