Celebrating our Blue Backyard

Your chance to celebrate our blue backyard with this free, family-friendly event

Time to celebrate our blue backyard

If getting up close and personal with the Great Southern Reef and learning about its incredible marine life sounds right up your alley, you’re in for a treat at ‘Celebrate our Blue Backyard’ this December.

This free, family-friendly event at the Kauri Community and Sports Centre at Seacliff lets you explore this amazing ecosystem without even getting your feet wet!

You can dive beneath the waves thanks to a virtual reality experience, where you’ll come face-to-face with some iconic species like whales, sea lions and cuttlefish, or check out marine specimens under the microscope.

Plus, you can learn from marine biologists and coastal experts about everything from sharks and rays to beach-nesting birds, or simply let the kids unwind with some nature drawing and colouring-in.
