Future of the Dry Creek Salt Fields

Discover how environmental, social and economic values are being balanced to help shape the future of the Dry Creek Salt Fields, a significant coastal ecosystem, spanning over 5,500 hectares and 28 kilometres of coastline north of Dry Creek.

In this talk by Dr Emily Leyden you will hear how the project team have examined realistic, evidence-based pathways for how this highly modified coastal landscape could transition over time. Multiple future scenarios have been explored, underpinned by a Benefit-Cost Analysis, with emphasis placed on environmental risk and resilience, given the site’s proximity to nationally significant ecosystems. Shifting Salts also considers constraints related to infrastructure, land ownership, mining tenements, and rehabilitation obligations.

 This webinar will:

• Share insights from the Shifting Salts project
• Run through possible future scenarios and the online platform demonstrating the wins and trade-offs from each option
• Explain how a Benefit-Cost Analysis approach was applied to each scenario
• Explore timelines and constraints for land use change at this complex site
