Metropolitan Adelaide and Northern Coastal Action Plan

Metropolitan Adelaide and Northern Coastal Action Plan Review

A collaborative approach to coastal conservation

Since 2009, the Metropolitan Adelaide and Northern Coastal Action Plan (MANCAP) has helped to bring together councils, government agencies, community groups and land managers to care for Adelaide’s metropolitan and northern coast. The plan has guided investment and on-ground action across public and private land, helping improve habitat condition, reduce weed threats, enhance biodiversity and support the recovery of key species. It has also supported community involvement and education, creating a shared approach to coastal conservation from Sellicks Beach to the Port Wakefield Proof Range.

The MANCAP Review refreshes this approach across 24 coastal management areas, drawing on updated information about biodiversity, climate change, coastal threats and management priorities. In collaboration with the Department for Environment and Water (DEW), councils and other stakeholders, the review highlights what has been achieved, the challenges that remain, and where future effort should be focused. It provides a practical guide for continuing to work together to protect and improve the region’s coastal and marine environments.
