Our priorities

Water resources and wetlands

Water resources are the rivers, wetlands and lakes that sustain our way of life. Green Adelaide will protect, enhance and restore Adelaide’s water resources to help preserve these essential ecosystems and the wildlife that call them home.

Despite being the driest state in Australia, South Australia is already seen as an international leader in urban water management thanks to our provision of safe and reliable water supplies, quality drainage systems and wastewater treatment methods. However, there is always room for improvement, and Green Adelaide plans to meet the challenge with a united front.

The responsibility for managing Adelaide’s water resources is shared by all landholders, including state government, local councils, businesses and individuals. This shared responsibility adds unique challenges to the task of protecting, enhancing and restoring of vital water resources and the water-dependent ecosystems within them.

Green Adelaide will drive an integrated ‘hills to sea’ approach that considers water sensitive urban design, re-use of water, flood management and more, ensuring the sustainable management of all water sources so the benefits to the environment and community are maximised.

You can find an information and application forms to do works in a watercourse, floodplain or body of water pursuant on our resources page.
