OUR PRIORITIES

Biodiversity and water sensitive urban design

To protect and enhance the Adelaide that we know and love, Green Adelaide will promote and encourage urban design that considers biodiversity and the water cycle, delivering greener, more liveable communities.

Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) and biodiversity sensitive urban design (BSUD) are ways of designing new developments and infrastructure to provide a positive impact on the surrounding environment.

WSUD and BSUD measures are essential for creating attractive and sustainable urban living conditions and vital habitats for wildlife.

  • reduce urban heat effects,
  • aid the provision of more green spaces,
  • reduce the risk of flooding in developed areas,
  • encourage positive interactions between people and nature, and
  • ensure the survival of native plants and animals.

Green Adelaide will promote a greater understanding of WSUD and BSUD measures, while forming partnerships, facilitating research and motivating government, industry and the community to use these measures when designing infrastructure and developments.

Key partnerships

To build industry and community capacity to design cooler and greener urban infrastructure, Green Adelaide has joined forces with Water Sensitive SA, a capacity building program which supports government, industry and the community to deliver more water sensitive urban design.

Water Sensitive SA provides guidelines, policies, tools and training to inspire and facilitate the delivery of innovative water sensitive projects and developments.
